Languages

Our school emphasises the importance of foreign languages. Polish and French are studied by all pupils from Year 3.

EAL classes are provided for pupils who need to develop their skills in English in order to benefit fully from normal class lessons (which are all taught in English). EAL is timetabled instead of foreign languages. Our older secondary EAL students, as part of University entrance requirements in some countries, can be entered for the TOEFL exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the Cambridge FCE exam (First Certificate in English).

As a school we are well aware of the importance of maintaining the mother tongue of our pupils, many of whom have English as a second language. Consequently, we can make arrangements for students to have lessons in their native language if there is a sufficient intrest. Currently we provide mother tongue language lessons in Korean, Japanese, German and Spanish.

Our school policy is to encourage enjoyment in the learning of languages, and therefore we also offer extra-curricular language clubs. These include German and Spanish for our students, and adult classes in Beginner Polish and English for our parents.
