BISC Wroclaw Newsletter Issue 01 3rd September 2010 Dear Parents, Welcome to the new school year. To those of you who are returning children and parents, welcome back and for new children and parents we are pleased that you have joined us. It is great to have finally arrived here in Wroclaw and began to get to know you all. I was pleased to see so many of you at our Open Day on Wednesday and look forward to getting to know you all better as the year goes on. If you were unable to make the meeting please introduce yourself to me. I am usually around the entrance at the start or end of the school or feel free to come up to the office at any time, even just to say hello. I also plan to carry on with the Round Table meetings which Andy has been holding so successfully. The dates of these will be in the newsletter when I have confirmed my teaching commitments. Please come along if you can and get to know me a little better and let me get to know you. As I am sure you will understand, it will take a few days for us to get all the extra-curricular activities (both for children and parents) up and running, however you will see in the Diary section some activities are already beginning. Please keep a close eye on this and I would encourage you to be involved in as many of the parent activities as you are able to. In August we received the results of our GCSE and A level exams. These results were excellent once again. Particular congratulations to Jody Phelan and Sang Hyo Kim who achieved the new A* grade at A-level. Jody got A*s in Biology and Chemisty, alongside Bs in Maths and Physics and is going to start his degree at University College, London later this month. Sang Hyo Kim got an A* in Maths and will continue his A-levels here at BISC this year. The A* is a new grade this year at A-level and only around 5% of students are awarded this grade so this is a truly exceptional performance. At GCSE level we also had excellent results across the year group. Particular congratulations to Zoe for earning 8 GCSEs at A or B and Wootie for earning an incredible 10 GCSEs including double A* in Science. Congratulations to all BISC students. Finally I'd like to let you know of two wonderful events that occurred during the holiday. Christina Poplawski is now Mrs. Christina Andrzejewski following her marriage to Jakub. Congratulations to both of them on this wonderful event. I am also pleased to let you know that Iza Luczkowska had a lovely baby boy, Aleksander. Congratulations to the whole family. We look forward to welcoming her back to school in a few months time and Aleksander joining us in a few years! Best wishes,
