Rebecca Grocott

Hello, my name is Rebecca Grocott and I am the new secondary school English teacher. I arrived in Poland two weeks ago from 'sunny' Stoke-on-Trent in England - home of the pottery industry, oatcakes and Robbie Williams!

I was lucky enough to 'land' my first teaching post here at BISC, Wroclaw, as I officially qualified as a teacher in June this year - so not only am I beginning a whole new challenge in a new career, but I am doing it in a new country.

I graduated from my degree in History with English in 2002, and then worked for a year in an independent book shop - I then went back to university to do a Masters degree in Cultural History. Since graduating from that I have worked in insurance administration and most recently for a water company in an administrative role, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have always had the desire to teach, so in 2008 I took the plunge and was accepted on the English PGCE course at Manchester Metropolitan University.

I am so pleased to be in Wroclaw, in a school where I am able to utilise and develop my skills as a teacher, receive additional support from the staff and have the opportunity to work with real 'characters' in the form of the pupils!

When at home (in England), I love socialising with my friends, going out, dancing, shopping and watching bands. I also enjoy listening to music (of all varieties), going for meals with my family, reading and watching films. I haven't really had time to become homesick yet, but I do miss my Jack Russell terrier, Ivy - who is a very lazy, bossy and noisy little dog!

I hope this has provided a very small insight into who I am - and I am always available for a chat in the secondary school classroom at the end of every day. Good luck with the new academic year and I'm sure I will bump into you around the school!
