Justyna HukMy name is Justyna Huk, I am the Y10 form tutor and the Mathematics teacher at BISC Wroclaw. I was born in Lower Silesia, and then moved to Wroclaw to study, and now it seems that the city has incorporated me here for good! At Wroclaw University I obtained a masters degree in Mathematics, with a specialization in Applied Statistics and Probability, and also full secondary teacher qualifications. I have heard on more than one occasion that mathematics is like music - that it is a universal language. Now, in my second year at BISC Wroclaw, I am still discovering how true that statement is! It often happens that students who are having some difficulties with language find themselves coping very well when it comes to maths. One aspect I really enjoy about teaching maths is the constant challenge to convince my students that they are able to overcome the difficulties and solve the problems that at first seemed to be beyond their reach. The most satisfying moment is when I hear from a student, no matter whether they are struggling with fractions or differential calculus, a happy 'Ahaaa! Now, I understand!'. In my free time I like imaging how diagonals cross in regular dodecahedron, solving finitely dimensional simultaneous equations and proving simple algebraic theorems. I always use a protractor to divide a pizza, know exactly what fraction of daytime I spend brushing my teeth and can recall with micrometer accuracy how long my shoe laces are. Yes, that is what the students usually think about maths teachers and that is, of course, perfectly true. |
